Last Couple of Days in N Palm Beach Anchorage

So no one slept last night...the boat was turning, wind was blowing and it was super humid and according to Mark, he has The Ebola. I'm pretty sure that last part is not true--we have not eaten any Doritos or spaghetti recently.  In other news, I am on day two of my 'on the wagon until Thanksgiving' program...no one has been injured yet.    So lets get caught up because as of tomorrow at 0630, aka half past six, we are heading out again.  And this may be the most boring post I've done so sorry--if you want interesting, please read Mark's post from the other day.

I can't really recall Saturday (Mark and Jon worked a lot that day, I did some chart and anchorage review) but I know close to dusk I took a swim--that is, jumped in the water on one sugar scoop and swam over to the other and got out.  I was not eaten by a shark or attached by catfish.  It was extremely salty.  I guess I am used to the Bay water not ocean water.  There is video but I look like a dork so we'll keep that to ourselves.

Yesterday (Sunday) we finally got in the dinghy and headed to land.  The dinghy "dock" was the underside of Route A1A and one side was a tiny sand area with "HIGH THEFT AREA" painted on the pillar.  The other side was a bunch of cement bags thrown into somewhat of a breaker wall around two water run offs covered with re-bar.  We went to that side.  Actually, it was really not that bad and we locked the hell out of the dinghy.
Not the side with the "High Theft Area" sign.
We did some reconn and found the Publix, CVS and a sports bar a quick sidewalk away.  Then we went on a jaunt to the big West Marine about a mile away.  I think I may have bought more than Mark on this trip -- ha ha.  I am very excited to have picked up some real sunglasses--polarized with something called aquatech or aquascope or aquasomething that I don't know what it is.  But they are awesome and I can actually see clearly in the sunshine now.  They were $64.99 so I assume I will lose them within the next week or so, most likely doing something stupid.  I also got these super cute inflatable LED solar lights to 1) help light the way to the potty at night and 2) augment the pimp lights.  Even better is that I picked up the Exumas Guide Book that Sheila recommended too.

Then we went back over to Duffy's Sports Bar and it was really good, surprising enough.  Two for one drinks...looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.  Football galore and great wings.  I'm assuming the Redskins lost but maybe the Browns were able to come back.  Best part was meeting up with Jon's friend Lisa who joined us for lunch.  We hit the store and liquor store on the way back to the boat where Lisa was able to hang out and enjoy cocktails with us (well, Jon and Mark at least).  It was a really fun night and great to meet another of Jon's friends.

So fun to meet and spend time with Lisa!
We did end up running the generator to power our batteries--Mark is pretty concerned about our power usage so we need to tighten that up.  We also thought we had used about 55 gallons of water in two days which was very upsetting.  We figured maybe it was due to some housekeeping we had done as well as regular use but turns out the upper tank was not feeding into the lower tank for some reason.  We still need to do A LOT better about how we use water, or don't use it I should say, but thank God we were not going through it at such an alarming rate.  Now our beer supply is not so lucky ha ha.

All seemed fine as we went to bed but like I said above, no one slept.  That made for three less than perky crew members today but we pushed through.  I was able to get in a couple hours of work this morning and at one point Mark and Jon attempted naps but it was really hot and humid today.  It was also very windy and the boat swung back and forth all day...even so now.  Mark and Jon took the next step in the side curtain construction and cut the material and I think it's going to be a welcome addition.

Monday morning rain out there.
Double checking the template
Material cut...no turning back now.
We bit the bullet and moved all the frozen and cold goods out of the 'not working properly' freezer and shut that down.  That should save us some power at least until we can figure out how to fix it or make it more efficient.  I have some ideas for insulating foam that I found on another blog so maybe we can try that.  We never could get air moving through the boat today so finally after suffering for 8 hours, we gave in around 1600 or so and turned on the generator for AC...bliss!

Island Khaya came over to enjoy our cold air and talk about our next move.  Well we really made them come over because we did not want to be away from our AC.  Looks like the facility near Ft. Lauderdale that is going to be doing work on our boat is for sure booked and has no dock space for at least a week.  They are supposed to see about moving some people around and maybe we'll get a spot the week of Thanksgiving as previously suggested.  Until then, they said to stay where we are because there is no dock space down there right now.  At least one large marina is closed so there is no room at the inn.  We have hung out here a few days and need to move on even if anchorages get a little harder to come by between here and Ft. Lauderdale.
Nice sunset after a hot and humid day
Which one is faking it?
We made the decision to head out tomorrow anyway and get a change of scenery (and hopefully better WIFI and cell coverage for us techno junkies).  We will have a very short day tomorrow--25 ICW miles only so we can increase our odds of grabbing a new anchorage early in the afternoon while giving ourselves extra time to get through the 8-10 bridges we need to go through tomorrow.  We'll see who wins the debate of "the bridge schedules don't matter" versus "we need to pay attention to the bridge schedules".  Weather report is not good--wind and rain--so the trip may be a wet slog for sure.  Too bad we didn't get farther on that side cover Mark and Jon started yesterday.  The weather was wrong today so let's hope it's wrong tomorrow too.  Amazing how that happens...it also sucks when you are in a boat and the forecast is completely inaccurate.  I will load pictures into this post tomorrow when we have half decent coverage.  XO Suzanne
