Catching up on the Last Couple of Days Part 2

Hello again...it's now Monday and we got up early (ugh, boo hiss on DST) and headed out of the New River at around 0630-0640, I can't remember.  But I did take a sunrise photo because I know that you all sit around at dinner or at parties and talk about our sunrise and sunset photos LOL.

Sunrise at our anchorage
Dawn as we moved on down the line
This morning found us with yet another frost warning and unacceptable cold temps...for the love of Pete we are wearing silks under out clothes - who does that on a sail boat, in Georgia no less.  Well, clearly we do.  Only thing that stinks is that in this cold, we are eating and snacking and that will be quite unfortunate once we do get back to warm and shorts and tanks and super cute bathing suit tops.  But for now, we are freezing in the am (in the 40's) and bask in the warmth of the afternoon (today the temp was 62 and sunny).
So away we motored planning to get to St M 615 (ish) and one of two creeks where we wanted to anchor and stage for going into St. Catherine's Sound then out into the Atlantic southbound for St. Simons Island!  But meanwhile, we're motoring.  Oh great, now I have that song stuck in my head...Sister Christian.  Ok, hold on I have to watch the video now...I still love Jack Blades but he did not age well so never mind.

Unsettling but ultimately victorious events today included Hell Gate where comments did not fill me with much confidence...we were going through a couple hours after low tide but it wasn't a lowest of the low tides so we had that going for us but still.  When you see things like 4.5 feet of water at the middle marker in the cut and low tide at the southern portion at only 3 feet, well, you start to worry.  I am a worrier but in we went sorta slow and following the markers NOT the chart.
Looks ok, what could possibly go wrong?
Oh, so that's tight. hmmmmm
Trust me that you are a lot closer to the shore than this shows and it's creepy
But all's well that end's well and we made it through no problem...note to self, never never never try this in low tide, ever.  Meanwhile, pretzel buns were made and turned out great.  The oven and I are becoming very close and I feel we have an understanding now.  I sorta love it, in a human-oven love sorta way.

After the excitement of Hell Gate and the fabulous pretzel buns (p.s. sorry I'm a food poster now, one more and then I'm done, really), Jon did an inspection of the tramps...you'll have to ask him but I believe they passed with flying colors.  He really did enjoy one of the best things about being on a catamaran, especially Stray Cat.  Naps on the tramps!

And I enjoyed the views along the way...nearing our anchorage, I spotted this fellow hanging out on the side of the channel.  Seriously, how amazing to see a bald eagle RIGHT THERE!

We got to our creek for the night and anchored with no problem...I think Jon can anchor with his eyes closed now! It's a quiet little creek and I want to be sure to do some star gazing tonight because it should be very dark and a clear night.

But before that, let's get on our Apple products and enjoy our frosty beverages!  And as the final food photo (for now at least), I present -- BROWNIES!  So excited that they turned out!! I've eaten two so far and I will bet money that they will all be gone by bed time.  Brownies and beer, I mean, come on, it would be un-American to not enjoy in honor of Mr. Eagle who welcomed us to the the creek!

And as I sign off, you know I'm gonna do it...because I'm a junkie about it...your Monday night dusk on a Georgia marsh photo.  I wish you could see it for real because it is stunning! It may seem like I make light of things or come across as silly or flippant at times. But seeing views like this marsh at dusk or eagles on the shore or dolphins swimming around us or Jon's funny comments or my love-Mark at the helm (he makes me proud), I thank God that I have this opportunity and have rediscovered my ability to feel amazed at the glory all around me.  For some time it seemed to me like I had lost my sense of wonder and that made me sad, but in the last couple of weeks it was found and I'm cherishing it and every moment of this!  XO Suzanne

Beautiful surroundings and nature are amazing and sometimes we just forget to look and appreciate it all. Your blog is wonderful and the Conneaut Lake Callender's are enjoying your adventures!
