Cedar Creek to Camp Lejeune

Our pretty girl at anchor tonight

Hello from Camp Lejeune.  I totally forgot to tell you yesterday that we are now 100% officially below Cape Hatteras....Woohoo!  Let me try to summarize the day...now that we are cruisers, 9 p.m. is late so I may not be the usually pithy charming gal you are used to cuz it's 30 minutes past my new bedtime.

Today was another early day to set out because we had to get about 50 miles to our anchorage.  Yet another awe inspiring sunrise and we left just after two shrimp boats.

And down the ICW we continued...it was still so very cold this a.m. and we were staring to wonder if maybe we'd made a huge mistake by bringing only a few long sleeves and long pants?  We all had frigid toes last night and well into today.  Come on heat!  Jon and Mark piloted us very well yet again, and with the depth changes and narrow channel, that was something to be proud of.  Jon cooked us a scrumptious breakfast and some of you know how fun it is to have yummy breakfast on the boat :-)

I seemed to have mastered the art of reheating pizza but when I tried to bake cookies tonight, well, that's a negative ghost rider.  (huh, I wonder if I have Top Gun on my computer) Oh so anyway, I burned half the first batch and took way too long to cook the second.  I guess tomorrow I will be researching how to best use a SMEV propane oven.  Of course I am totally irritated at this so now I am on a quest to conquer that oven...We will have cookies, muffins, brownies, biscuits and bread. Mark my words!

Some interesting shots along the way...

So many wonderful houses--big, small, lots of land, little land, on islands all to themselves.
Super fun colors! Love it!
It's for sale!

For sale also, comes with its own water bird.

The island COMES WITH the cabin! Holidays are coming...

We were treated to another curious pod of dolphins today and I was able to capture a few of them on film finally!

Every mile is different which makes the trip something new every time you look around.

More dolphins!  This was at an inlet where if you turned left, you went to the Atlantic. Dolphins are a thrill and pleasure.

One side of the ICW looked like this much of the time.

Here is how to properly do teleworking...lucky to have a company that still needs me for a while longer and supports our going on this adventure. Shameless plug for my company...Thanks Xcelerate!

So this was interesting (and you can just trust me on that)...we needed to be at this bridge by 1530 to catch the opening at the bottom of the hour...well at the time we were five miles away and going about 5 knots and did not have a hour to make it.  So we put the peddle to the metal and figured we'd be there 3 minutes late but surely the operator would wait...Mark ended up calling up but we were there 5 minutes early and no problem at all.  Then Mark noticed that the charts had the bridge well beyond where it actually was...so yeah, we hauled hull for no reason.  Well at least we made it in plenty of time and learned how to better use the waypoint feature on the plotter.  See, silver lining!

Ohhh my! Will we make it?!

Oh please, as if we were ever worried. ;-)
Entering USMC land at the bridge!!
Not the place you want to be when they are doing bombing practice!

The fellas enjoying a well deserved cocktail after a super long day.
I have no idea what I am doing...but it almost looks like I do huh?!
Well, it was a long and safely traveled day.  Tomorrow we are up and out before sunrise and heading to Wrightsville Beach.  As Mark noted, we have gone about a week and are just now needing a refill on our port water tank, need to get our stock of drinking water back up and we really really need a black water pump out. A full head tank is not ok.  Talk to you tomorrow! XO Suzanne
